The Perks To Being A Wallflower By: Stephen Chbosky
Have you ever felt infinite? That's a question I've been asking myself since I read this book and I keep trying to find times when I was truly infinite and so far have only found one, if you would like to know just email me and I'd be glad to share. I loved this book to pieces and now wonder why I haven't read it before. I am going to warn that it does talk about drugs and has sexual references so if you're sensitive to that stuff be prepared. This book taught me that people can blossom into a confident or happier person when they are accepted for who they are. I'm pretty sure Charlie was writing to another wallflower because in the beginning he says "Dear friend, I am writing to you because you listen and understand....." and later on in the story his friend Patrick or "nobody" says "he's a wallflower", and then continues saying to Charlie "you see things. you keep quiet about them. and you understand." If you have read this book don't be scared to comment what you thought of it, I always love to know other perspectives and see what someone else thought of it. If you don't want to comment on here feel free to email me at thoughtsofabookaholic@gmail.com I check my emails almost everyday and will most definitely respond. On to the summary before I bore you with what I think.
Summary from back of book because its pretty late where I am:
It is the story of what it's like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie's letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives. We may not know whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates, family dramas, and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, where all you need is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite.
Today or night I leave you with a quote from this book- "So I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't we have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about it."-Charlie from The Perks to Being a Wallflower
